On the 12th of September, the SLEAD project concluded a teacher training session at the Conservatório de Música do Porto, Portugal, bringing together educators from diverse subjects areas for a new learning experience. Around 16 teachers, representing subjects areas such as Music, Portuguese, Mathematics, Visual Arts, and Citizenship and Development,  participated in the program, which focused on the integration of Service-Learning (SL) into their teaching practices. The training provided teachers with practical tools and strategies to design and implement impactful SL projects in their classrooms, fostering student engagement, critical thinking, and social responsibility.

In addition to exploring Service-Learning, the training sessions delved into innovative student assessment techniques. These new methods aim to make learning not only more effective but also more rewarding by emphasizing personalized feedback and continuous improvement, shifting the focus from traditional testing to more holistic approaches.

One of the key takeaways from the training was the versatility of Service-Learning, with educators from various disciplines realizing its potential to enhance student learning across subject areas. By incorporating community-based projects into their teaching, these teachers are now equipped to provide students with more meaningful, hands-on learning experiences.

The SLEAD project continues to promote innovative teaching methods, with the goal of shaping a more engaged and socially conscious generation of students. This successful training session marks an important step forward in the project’s mission to empower educators and enrich the educational landscape.
